Key benefits
- Maximizes Earning Potential: Unlocks hidden capacity within your existing stowage, enabling you to transport more containers without extending turnaround times.
- Ensures Safety and Compliance: Maintains absolute stability and safety, with all optimizations rigorously validated by MacGregor's expert engineering.
- Boosts Sustainability: Lowers CO₂ emissions per tonne by optimizing cargo per voyage, directly supporting your environmental and efficiency goals.
- Delivers Rapid ROI: Provides a fast return on investment—often within just a few sailings—because each optimization is tailored specifically to your vessel.
- Enhances Fleet Operations: Drives higher utilization, greater operational predictability, and stronger overall financial performance across your entire fleet.
-
Why
Usually, a randomly chosen container ship can carry about 80% of her informed theoretical TEU-capacity, i.e., a 10,000TEU ship can load 8.000TEU. It is possible to raise the utilisation percentage from 80% to close to 100% in some cases, but typically 90% is a good target when starting the project.

Ship Types
Cargo Boost is suited for all major container vessels. It adapts to vessel size, route, and trade type to achieve the highest impact.
Applicable vessel types:- Feeder and short-sea container ships
- Panamax and post-Panamax container ships
- Ultra-large container ships (ULCS) on global routes
Whether your operation prioritises volume, speed, or cost efficiency, Cargo Boost can be configured to fit your fleet profile.
-
Customer Experiences
Operators implementing Cargo Boost have achieved clear, measurable results.
Typical outcomes include:
- Up to 15% more cargo capacity without structural rebuilds
- Reduced port time and more predictable turnaround schedules
- Improved fuel and emissions efficiency through better utilisation
- Faster ROI, typically within a few voyages

Case study
Working together with our customers onboard the ship is always eye-opening, and this time was no exception.
As part of an upcoming cargo system upgrade (Cargo Boost), we inspected the cargo systems onboard a vessel that has been in operation for 15 years since delivery. Together with the customer, we closely examined the condition of the hatch covers and container foundations, gaining a clear, real-world view of how the vessel has performed over time.
This collaborative inspection provided valuable insight into how to ensure another 15 years of safe, efficient, and cost-effective cargo handling. With targeted maintenance and upgrades, including external lashing, bearing pad renewal, new container foundations and adapters for mixed stowage, we’re helping the customer extend the vessel’s lifecycle, reduce downtime, and improve performance.
Cargo Boost is more than just an upgrade, it’s a smart way to maximise the value of existing assets:
- Extending vessel lifecycle
- Improving cargo system performance
- Minimising downtime and maintenance costs
- Supporting the customer's long-term business goals
